This annual event, run by the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust, is designed to celebrate Stephen’s legacy and help inspire and enable young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to fulfil their potential.
A lot has changed since Stephen Lawrence’s murder in a racist attack in 1993, but there is still a long way to go. Too many young people still struggle to succeed because they are disadvantaged by factors beyond their control, such as where they are born, the school they go to, or any discrimination they may face.
Stephen Lawrence Day is about recognising that these issues exist, but coming together in the spirit of Stephen’s character and values to commit to changing society for the better. We all have a part to play in creating a fairer, more supportive society, and individual actions really can have a huge ripple effect. At Fat Beehive, we are reaffirming our commitment to kindness, openness and the importance of community. This is online for now, but we hope to see you all again in person soon!
In light of our country’s current challenges, the need for Stephen Lawrence Day is greater than ever – a day that gives hope to young people and encourages them to get involved in creating the kind of community they want to live in – and to have a strong voice in building a fairer and more inclusive society.
– Fat Beehive works solely with charities and not-for-profit organisations that are seeking to bring about positive change and are proud to be helping the Stephen Lawrence Trust create a society in which every person, regardless of their background, has the opportunity and support to flourish and is treated with fairness and respect.
